Ginkgo

The ‘Gingko’ seat project presents an intriguing fusion of contemporary design and practicality, culminating in an elegant seating solution that enriches the identity of the Nanyou Station on the Shenzhen subway line 12.

Drawing inspiration from the graceful organic shape of ginkgo leaves, the design artfully arranges six seats along a central spine. Varying in height from 350 mm to 450 mm, these thoughtfully designed seats cater to individuals of all ages, ensuring comfort for every passenger.

In the pursuit of a harmonious design, we employed black-coloured fiberglass for the envelope and utilized polycarbonate for the sitting surface, which allows ambient light to illuminate the seat’s surface. Furthermore, an ingenious pressure sensor encircling the sitting area effortlessly manages the seat’s lighting system. When occupied, the sensor automatically switches off the light, conserving energy. As the seat becomes vacant, the light gracefully rekindles, ready to welcome the next passenger.

The central spine, crafted from white-coloured fiberglass, imparts an additional emphasis on the volumes reminiscent of ginkgo leaves, elevating the seat’s aesthetic allure.

Our vision for the ‘Gingko’ seat transcends mere functionality. It serves as a bold exploration at the intersection of art and utility, drawing inspiration from nature’s wonders. The captivating irregularity and beauty of ginkgo leaves serve as a foundation for the seat’s captivating form. Integrating artificial lights not only enhances the passenger experience but also establishes a unique connection with the travelers. Moreover, the deliberate selection of materials and colours harmonizes the design with the station’s distinctive aesthetics, forging an indelible identity.

In creating the ‘Gingko’ seat, we venture beyond the ordinary, presenting a concept that epitomizes the delicate dance between artistic expression and pragmatic utility. Our aspiration lies in shaping an experience that transcends traditional seating, inviting passengers to embrace the beauty and innovation that surrounds them.

Flow

The ‘Flow’ seat project seamlessly blends contemporary design aesthetics with practicality, introducing an elegant seating solution that adds character to the Airport East Station platform on the Shenzhen subway line 12.

Inspired by the dynamic energy flow lines of modern technology and networks, the design exudes a minimalist and functional charm. Its modular construction allows for effortless extension, ensuring adaptability to various surroundings and configurations. As a result, the ‘Flow’ seat effortlessly complements different station layouts, catering to diverse passenger needs.

Durability, resistance, hygiene, and easy maintenance guided our choice of material for the seat. Aluminium mesh emerged as the ideal candidate, embodying these qualities while harmonizing with the station’s innovative design language and high-tech colour palette.

Enhancing passenger experience further, a subtle light ribbon adorns the seat’s edge, gently indicating flashing signals as the subway approaches the platform. This thoughtful addition serves as a timely reminder for passengers to prepare for boarding.

Beyond its functional prowess, the ‘Flow’ seat embodies an intriguing exploration between art and utility, drawing inspiration from cutting-edge technology. Its minimalistic yet sophisticated form, in conjunction with the interactive light ribbon, exemplifies this blend of creativity and practicality.

In crafting the ‘Flow’ seat, we ventured to push boundaries, curating an experience that transcends mere seating. It is an emblem of innovation, where aesthetic excellence converges with functionality. Every element, from the graceful shape to the interactive light feature, culminates in an unforgettable journey for passengers passing through the Airport East Station.
